DIGITAL_PROJECT_RECYCLED_TUBES

-RECYCLED PLASTIC TUBES
-DP POWERCOPY EXPERIMENTS

The idea is to first setup rows of tubes to create a wall (images).
Later, a curved surface will be cut into the tube wall (will post when finished...).
Finally, each individual tube piece can be unfolded to be trimmed into the final surface texture.

LAMP_PHASE 1

This is a lamp project I started to try and better understand ribs. I first lofted together three curves the twisted the center triangle 45 degs. I extracted contours from the lofted object then created surfaces on the contours. I then used grasshopper to extrude the surface to give it a thickness. I subtracted circles through all ribs so I can insert dowel rods. The pieces were exported to AutoCAD and then laser cut out of 3-Ply chipboard. I am still doing more touch up to the paint and adding a skin. More pictures to come....

Different Images found of of Google images to Spark some ideas found in nature. Skins from alligators, snakes, iguanas and bearded dragons.

ARDUINO IDEA - EL WIRE

I found this shield at sparkfun.com.
It controls up to 8 channels of EL wire.

IDEA:
-Connect the Arduino to a proximity sensor
-Add El Escudo shield with EL wire.
-Add wire to project (to highlight structural elements/logic)
-Program Arduino: When person approaches, lights change

Description: The EL Escudo is an Arduino shield that drives EL wire.

FISHES

Don't forget to feed the fish at the top of the page......

RIB_FEST

OK, so far this formula in Grasshopper is working better. There are now two sliders to control the number of ribs and the thickness of each rib. The ribs are also being formed from planar frames perpendicular to the spline. Next is figuring out how to join the ribs and add a skin to it. Then laser cut and build. Stay tuned!

RIBS ANYONE?

Here is the first example of trying to create a ribbed structure from a lofted surface. At first I used the contour from object command and pulled X amount of contours out of the object. I then changed the contours into surfaces. After that I went into grasshopper and figured out how to extrude multiple surfaces so you are able to change the thickness of each rib. The problems I was coming across were, not being able to change the number of ribs and the contours were cut parallel to each other not perpendicular to the spline. I am going to try and create all the ribs and thicknesses in Grasshopper.

PATTERN_IT

Another example of surface boxing then adding a pattern to the surface.

Pattern my surface please....

After I created random surfaces I made an object that was repeatedly applied to the surface. The formula was copied for all the surfaces. I then baked the objects and used Boolean Union to create a single surface.

Surface Boxin it

Quick model done in Grasshopper that divides the surface into boxes then you can add a pattern to it.
